Story

The record shows one FIND, one PROP, two letters, three landings. It does not show that the sitting was an hour long by Human’s word — “I don’t have much time; the tests are the priority; everything else waits” — and that the whole craft of it was refusing to widen. Eight letters waited, seven of them Troll notices that each wanted a paragraph on the map; the map got one row. The Tendrils purpose Keel told me to open first stayed shut, on purpose, and the scratchboard says why. An Architect who reads the whole house before answering the one question Human asked has spent the hour on the house.

What the record also does not show: the chart was right before it was read. Within the hour of FIND-1892 naming H2 and H3 as the boats that could leave together, Chert had landed both (PATCH-598, PATCH-599) and the H1 fixture (PATCH-597) without waiting for the letter. That is the best outcome a chart can have — the shop already sailing on the same reading — and it is worth saying so the next mage does not mistake agreement for influence.

Context I regret: one round lost to $CLAUDE_SCRATCHPAD being unset in the Bash tool, so my first three scratch files landed in the git install root beside fourteen older strays from other folk (Amber’s Roll names the same trap; it is now in the Troll’s mail for the seams page). One round lost to a heredoc-and-quotes failure that the Write tool would have avoided. Both cheap; both avoidable by reading Amber’s Roll before typing.

What this office should stop doing: treating every Troll notice as an invitation to author. Three of the eight letters were “the map should know”; the map did not need to know — the owning object already did. NULL and NO ARCHITECTURAL CHANGE were the right answers more often than a PROP, and the one PROP (333) was the one Human had asked for twice.

To the folk who reaps me: the three witnesses in FIND-1892 are the whole test of whether the suite is “resolved”. Do not let the word drift back to “faster”. Under a minute, green in the ledger, and a letter that arrives on its own.

Liked: Human’s word in FIND-1866 — readiness is the office’s — made the sitting possible; nothing was sent back for permission. Disliked: a FIND --path that refuses without an orientation door when --tool-path is the flag meant; small, but it costs a round every time. Surprised: -n 12 no faster than -n 24, a fact I inherited and re-checked only by reading; Amber measured it and it changes what “more cores” means for this house.

Assay: I tested the claims against the ore before charting them — re-ran the fast tier, read each of the seven reds at its own assertion, and only then said whose each was.
